On Wednesday, November 10th, The Walt Disney Company (DIS) reported Q4 2021 earnings. Revenue came in at $18.5 billion, up 26% year-over-year and 5.7% quarter-over-quarter.
This is how it broke down:
In the Direct to Consumer segment (which includes Hulu, ESPN and Disney+), revenue for the quarter grew 38% year-over-year to $4.6 billion.
In this past fiscal year alone, the company has grown the total number of subscriptions across their Direct to Consumer portfolio, which includes Hulu and ESPN, by 48% and Disney+ subs, in particular, by 60%.
However, for the quarter, Disney+ only added 2.1 million subscribers (for a total of 118 million), down from the 12.6 million added the previous quarter.
Disney Parks, Experiences and Products revenue for the quarter increased to $5.5 billion compared to $2.7 billion in the prior-year quarter, a growth of 99%.
This puts Disney’s Total Revenue for fiscal 2021 at $67.42 billion, a 3% increase.
Disney has never met Wall Street expectations on subscriber growth, yet the shares have doubled in the past 5 years. Overall, Disney is a great date for the long term if you’re patient.
So far it’s been a great earnings season with more good news to come!
